Disadvantages of Touch Screen Technology

There are two type of disadvantages about touch screen technology. The first type is related to the product. The main noticeable disadvantage related to the touch technology is that there is an absence of software which works with touch screen; flash video is not supported by the iPad or the Iphone. In addition to the expensive purchase cost of such devices, some touch screen monitor can have a high maintenance cost for a organization. Often, there could be touchscreen sensitivity problems after several usage.

The second type of disadvantage concerns the user situation. To begin with, there is concern about hand or finger stress. There can be a possible arm fatigue since significant pressure can be required by the touch technology. Also, it can be difficult to point accurately a small icon from the screen. According to Wikipedia, this can be corrected with the use of devices such as a pen or other pointing devices. However, it can be problematic in a public kiosk or in a bank. Moreover, the user must be situated within a certain distance in order to touch the screen. In a public place there could be a concern about hygienic condition of the screen.
